The foreign governments waiting for the supply of Covid – 19 vaccines are asked to hold back more patience because India needs to be prioritized in this case, according to the Serum Institute of India (SII).

Adar Poonawalla, SII’s Chief Executive tweeted, “I humbly request you to please be patient. The company has been directed to prioritize the huge needs of India and along with that balance the needs of the rest of the world”.

As a part of the national inoculation drive, India is taking the help of the Oxford University / AstraZeneca Covid – 19 vaccines that the company is manufacturing in order to initially provide vaccination to around 300 million people.

Bangladesh, Brazil along other low and middle-income countries are dependent on SII’s AstraZeneca vaccine that is named as COVISHIELD by the Indian company.

But the demand from Western countries like Canada is increasing and Poonawalla has vouched to provide the COVISHIELD vaccine in the coming month.

The drug regulator of Britain is also auditing the manufacturing process that is being undertaken at SII, thus paving the path for the COVISHIELD vaccine to be shipped from there to other countries including the UK.

Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s government has once been strongly criticized for the vaccination drive that was being slowly undertaken. The health authorities are all ready to expand the number of inoculation substantially in the upcoming days.

Since the mid of January, almost 11 million people have received vaccination in India.
