Chandigarh to increase the timing of vaccination

Thursday March 25, 2021 at 10:36 pm
Chandigarh: The concerned authorities have decided to pay attention to the quality at the inoculation sites because if there is an increase in the demand for vaccination, the timing can be extended to three to five hours rather than increasing the number of sites.
Currently, the UT health department is running 51 vaccination sites. The director of the health services of the UT, Dr. Amandeep Kang stated, “We have sites which can take more than 200 beneficiaries. But what matters is quality and well-trained staff. So, if there is more demand, we will extend the timings at the sites till 8 pm”.
According to the sources, by April, people who are above the age of 45 years and without co-morbidities shall receive their vaccination against Covid-19.
An official at the UT health department proclaimed, “There are around 70,000 vaccines in our cold chain storage. We have these until July when this consignment will expire. There is no shortage of Covishield with us”.
Keeping in sync with the mandatory requirement for a vaccination site, three rooms have been reserved for the vaccination and these include a waiting room, a vaccination room, and an observation room. For the process of vaccination, five vaccination officers have been roped in. Facilities for the adverse situations are also taken into consideration. Critical care monitors and specialists are also available.
In the meantime, the city-based social activists have made arrangements for a helpline where the citizens aged above 60 years or those who have taken to bed can call up at any time to ask for help. BJP’s medical cell convener, Prince Bhadula stated, “We will take them from home and drop them back after vaccination. This will be for the elderly who are unable to come on their own to the vaccination sites”. The helpline number – 8269000055 shall be functional from 9 am until 5 pm.
