Diabetes : Types, Symptoms & Remedies

Diabetes is, without a doubt, the most common disease in the whole world. According to a survey, one out of ten people in this world who are over 20 years of age has diabetes. In the United States alone, there are more than 1.4 million people that get diabetes every year. So today we will talk about everything that you need to know about diabetes.

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a common disease that often happens when the blood sugar level inside the person’s body suddenly increases.

Symptoms

Weight fluctuation

One of the early signs and symptoms that a person shows when he/she gets diabetes is sudden fluctuation in weight. Either your pressure will increase suddenly, or you will lose a lot of weight in just a short period.

Thirst 

When a person has diabetes, he/she suddenly feels a lot thirsty and, after every few minutes, wants to drink water. As when you have diabetes, it flushes out more water from your body, making you dehydrated and thirsty.

Hunger

The most common symptom that a diabetes patient will have is hunger. You will have the urge to eat food every few minutes.

Urination

When a person has diabetes, his kidneys stop working very well, which results in keeping your urinary bladder full and making you want to pee after every few minutes.

Weakness

It has often seen and observed that a diabetic patient starts feeling weakness and loss of energy in his body. It happens because of the sudden change in insulin level, which leads to stopping the glucose from converting into energy for your organization.

Treatment

Diabetes is a lifetime disease, so it cannot get fully cured, but you can control any diabetes type with proper diet, medications, and regular activities. While many of them cannot get fully healed, but Gestational diabetes can get fully cured if you take proper diet and medication.

Home remedies

There are some home remedies that you can take to control your blood sugar level. These will not cure your diabetes, but it will help you.

Bitter Gourd: Having Bitter Gourd can make your blood sugar level go very low.

Mango leaves: In India, people take Mango leaves and dry them in the sun rays when it’s completely dry they crush and drink it with water in the morning. It can also help you get your blood sugar level control.

Amla: Amla, which is also known as Indian gooseberry, can help you control your blood sugar level. It is very rich in Vitamin C and helps your pancreas produce optimum, which helps with your diabetes.

Diagnosing diabetes

There are many ways in which a person can go and get his diabetes checked. There are different kinds of tests done in which some require testing before eating, and some can get done anytime.

A1C (requires no fasting)

  • If the test shows that you are less than 5.7%, that means you don’t have diabetes.
  • If it’s showing between 5.7% to 6.4%, then you are at risk of having diabetes.
  • Anything above 6.4% confirms that you have diabetes.

FPG test (Fasting plasma glucose)

  • If it shows less than 100mg/dl, then it means you don’t have diabetes.
  • If it’s showing between 100mg/dl to 125.99mg/dl, then you are at risk of having diabetes.
  • Anything above 125.99mg/dl confirms that you have diabetes.

Oral glucose tolerance test

  • Less than 140mg/dl means that you don’t have diabetes.
  • Anything between 140mg/dl to 199.99mg/dl means you are at risk of having diabetes.
  • Anything above 200mg/dl confirms that you have diabetes.

Types of diabetes

While having diabetes may be standard, but that doesn’t mean everyone will have the same diabetes problems. Different kinds of diabetes have various symptoms. The most common types of diabetes that you can find are type 2 diabetes, type 1 diabetes, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes

This diabetic disease prevents your body from using its insulin. When this happens to a person, the person cannot create enough insulin in the body, nor can he resist the insulin inside his body. It’s a widespread problem. Just in India, more than 10 million patients get this disease.

Type 1 diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is where your pancreas starts to produce just a little insulin, or the insulin stops producing at all in your body. This diabetic disease in medical terms is called Juvenile diabetes. Type 1 diabetes disease is a disease that mostly occurs during a person’s adolescence. This diabetic type is one of the diabetes types that you don’t want to have ever, and many patients have to go and get daily insulin injections in this diabetes.

Prediabetes

Prediabetes, also known as Impaired glucose tolerance, is the stage between type 2 and type 1 diabetes. In this prediabetes, the sugar level is not as high as type 2 diabetes, but it can be, if not treated right. This diabetes is also prevalent. In India, there are 10 million cases of prediabetes every year.

Gestational diabetes

This diabetic disease is also known as diabetes during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes only occurs in women during the time of their pregnancy. It is not dangerous at all, but it can be turned into type 2 diabetes if the person didn’t take care of it.  This diabetes type can get treated during pregnancy or else can affect your child during birth.
