On Wednesday, the government’s Principal Scientific Advisor, K Vijay Raghavan warned about the third phase of the coronavirus that “is inevitable” in the country.
While giving a speech at a media platform on the health ministry’s statement on the current scenario in the country, Raghavan stated, ‘A phase three is inevitable, given the higher levels of circulating virus but it is not clear on what time scale this phase three will occur”.
He also added saying that we must get ourselves prepared for the next few waves.
The officials are of the opinion that the extending Covid waves of such ‘ferocity’ that the country is going through at the present moment ‘were not predicted’.
The health ministry exclaimed that the 12 states that include Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and UP, consists of more than 1 lakh positive cases.
Lav Agarwal, joint secretary of, health ministry opined, “There are some areas of concern. Bengaluru reported around 1.49 lakh cases in the last week. Chennai reported 38,000 cases. Some districts have recorded further and speedy Covid cases, these include Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Gurugram”.
India is currently fighting against the second strain of the virus. For the past couple of weeks, India now is registering more than 3 lakh cases. The abrupt increase in the number of positive cases, which is much higher in comparison to the first strain, has imposed inhuman pressure on the health care units, where hospitals are running short of beds, oxygen and medical requirements.
