While many precautions regarding the Covid-19 are getting taught by doctors, including the hand wash, social distancing, quarantine, stay away at least 6 ft from any person. There is one precaution that isn’t that easy to get these days and consider the most important one; it’s the face mask.
Most countries have a shortage of face masks and even ask the people to create one at home for themselves, and if they can create extra, then donate them for other people and patients. So if you also want to be safe and maybe help your country by donating the mask, let’s see the essentials that you will need to create a face mask.
Essentials of face mask
Another important thing that you will need to get is your sew so that you can give your cloth that you are using the shape of a mask. If you have a sewing machine, it will be easier for you to create one than hand sewing.
Another important thing is the fabric that you are using while created a cloth mask; many doctors and professionals have advised that you use at least two layers while making the mask. Please choose a fabric that has less space to let the air pass out from it that will act as a filter.
The woven material will be a tight fabric to create your homemade mask but feel free to choose other fabrics. Just make sure it doesn’t let the air pass quite effortlessly, or else it will be of no use.
After that, you can even get an extra filter layer if you want for your protection. There are many different DIY filters on the net that you will see people using in their mask, including coffee filter, paper towel, napkin, nylon fabric, etc.
While you are using your mind to be creative, make sure that you act smart as well, filters are useful only if you choose the right one. There are things that you need to consider before adding a filter;
- It should be dense, so even the tiniest particle will not get inside.
- It should not have a fiber that can be harmful to a human to inhale like HEPA, etc.
Ensure that the mask fits you right, and you feel comfortable while wearing it. If not, then you will only have to remove it later when you are outside, and that can be dangerous.
Make sure all the straps are soft and don’t itch when you sweat and also make sure that with the comfort your make covers your chin till your nose part or else the air can still come inside.
Another thing that you want to make sure is that your mask is durable enough to stay fit after wash. If you go out every day, you need to wash the cover every day as well. So make sure to use the fabric that doesn’t shrink, tore, or lose after each wash.
