The correct dose and duration in Diabetic patients can stop black fungus

According to the health experts, mucormycosis or black fungus in basically noted in Covid-19 patients who have a high blood sugar. The right amount of dose and duration of steroids can put an end to this infection.
Dr Anoop Misra, Chairman of Fortis-C-DOC (Centre of Excellence for Diabetes, Metabolic Diseases and Endocrinology) while at a webinar series on ‘Illness to Wellness’ campaign on the theme Diabetes Care and Management During Post Covid-19 Era of Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) stated, “Mucormycosis is mostly seen in Covid-19 patients with uncontrolled diabetes. Most of these patients are on steroids. In this epidemic, an interesting point is that mortality in these patients is lower than previously. This is because of improved multi-disciplinary management.”
On the context of a healthy living, Dr Sudhir Gupta, Senior Chief Medical Officer (SAG), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) opined that a person should follow and inculcate healthy habits for a good lifestyle that may include maintaining a proper balanced diet, workout session daily, adequate and sound sleep that is essential for avoiding stress.
He also said that blood sugar can be avoided by maintaining a healthy living. Diabetes can be within the limit, manageable and can be treated as well.
In addition to this, Dr. Dheeraj Kapoor, Chief endrocrinology of Artemis Hospitals stated, “Diabetews needs to be controlled very rigorously to avoid complications arising out of Covid-19 and indiscriminate use of steroids should be discouraged.”
While speaking on the preventive measures that should be maintained along with the treatment of Covid-19, Dr Samir Sud, Co-Founder and Medical Director of Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals, exclaimed, “One way to stall the possibility of the fungal infections is to make sure that Covid-19 patients- both in treatment and after recovery-are administered the correct dose and duration of steroids.”
The webinar aimed at bringing mass awareness and spreading knowledge regarding diabetes that is the main concern during Covid-19. As per the reports, one among six people suffering from blood sugar is from India, the diabetes capital of the world.
