300 resident doctors on a strike

Surat : On Saturday evening, nearly 300 resident doctors from New Civil Hospital (NCH) are undergoing a flash strike. Their strike is based upon security after relatives of a dead Covid-19 patient had a heated conversation with a resident doctor at the Covid-19 treating hospital. After going on with the strike for over one hour, the doctors got back to their work and that too after they received an assurance from the police about the security at the state-run hospital campus.
After the heated conversation in between the patient’s relatives and the residential doctor at the hospital where the patient succumbed on Saturday, the doctors gathered outside the office of the medical superintendent.
Some of the relatives of the deceased patient entered into the hospital premises and soon entered into an argument and this afterwards led to a tense situation, according to sources at the hospital.
One of the doctors who was protesting opined, “The relatives were angry and some of them even tried to attack the doctor. We have been demanding security at the Covid-19 hospital but no arrangements have been done till now”.
A doctor stated, “Following the incident we sat on dharna after which police assured us security. They told the doctors that two cops will be placed at each of the two gates”.
In order to curb the spread of the deadly virus, family and friends of the infected patients are not allowed to enter the premises of the hospitals that is dealing with Covid-19 patients.
